LAUREN DUFFUS UNVEILS NEW SINGLE "N.U.M.T.E" WITH SURREAL MUSIC VIDEO
London-based producer and vocalist Lauren Duffus returns with "N.U.M.T.E," a jagged, nocturnal fusion of breakbeats and ethereal vocals. The track expands Duffus’ distinct sonic world, blending left-field electronica with dreamy lyrical flourishes.
The accompanying music video, directed by Stanley Brock, follows Duffus through a twilight cityscape in a full space suit—drifting from eerie estate courtyards to the pulsating energy of a club dancefloor. She rides night buses under neon lights, inhabiting liminal spaces that echo the track’s atmospheric tension.
Duffus’ sound thrives in this after-dark aesthetic—both intimate and unsettling. "N.U.M.T.E" layers spectral synths and fragmented rhythms beneath her enigmatic vocal presence, drawing from influences like Oneohtrix Point Never and the witch house movement of the early 2010s.
“A dystopian club track expressing themes of longing and nostalgia”, she says.
Despite a low-profile online presence, Duffus has built a reputation through NTS, AD93, and early champions like The Face and British Vogue. Her journey began in 2020, experimenting with production software during lockdown. Early lo-fi SoundCloud releases led to a spot on NTS’ artist development program and collaborations with underground labels.
Her breakout 2022 track "Habits," mixed by TSVI, blended choral samples, glitching synths, and cascading breaks, later featured in a Royal Opera House dance performance by British Vogue and Burberry. Since then, she has taken her sound global—touring East Asia and performing at MUTEK Argentina, alongside UK venues like Fabric, Village Underground, and Colour Factory.
With "N.U.M.T.E," Duffus continues to push boundaries, cementing her place as a vital force in contemporary electronic music.
