SHURA ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM ‘I GOT TOO SAD FOR MY FRIENDS’ + SHARES SINGLE ‘RECOGNISE’
Shura is back with her first new music in six years, announcing the release of I Got Too Sad For My Friends on May 30th via Play It Again Sam. The album’s lead single, “Recognise,” is a blend of ethereal synths and frenetic drums, exploring themes of artistic identity and the selfishness of dreams, ultimately embracing life’s unpredictability.
Reflecting on the song, Shura says: “Recognise is about coming out of a period of despair and slowly understanding that everything is ok. That 'ok' is good. I can sit quietly, read a book, sip a coffee, and deeply appreciate being here and everything that has happened and will happen.”
The years since her last album forevher have been marked by both personal growth and hardship. Shura turned to streaming, embraced fitness, and struggled with isolation during the pandemic, which led to a sense of emotional disconnect and a personal health scare. Though rooted in themes of depression, I Got Too Sad For My Friends is an album that confronts pain while celebrating resilience.
Produced by Luke Smith (Foals, Shygirl) and featuring collaborations with Cassandra Jenkins, Becca Mancari, and Helado Negro, the album introduces a new warmth and earthiness to Shura’s signature sound.
