KATIE GAVIN RELEASES DEBUT SOLO ALBUM ‘WHAT A RELIEF’
Katie Gavin, known for her lyrical prowess and depth, debuts her first solo album, What A Relief via Saddest Factory Records. Alongside the release, Gavin has unveiled a music video for the focus track “As Good As It Gets (feat. Mitski),” directed by Alexa Viscius. Gavin describes the song as a “realistic love song,” delving into the everyday nuances of a long-term relationship. “‘I think this is as good as it gets’ evokes the question…‘is this as good as it gets?’” says Gavin. She adds, “I am honoured to have Mitski on this track.”
The newly released single, “As Good As It Gets,” follows previous album tracks “Casual Drug Use,” “Aftertaste,” and “Inconsolable.” “Casual Drug Use,” one of the album’s earliest pieces, is a post-breakup anthem that balances infectious melodies with emotional depth. “Aftertaste” captures the exhilaration of new love through light, airy melodies, while “Inconsolable” delves into the effects of generational trauma on romantic relationships.
Tracks like “Casual Drug Use,” “Aftertaste,” and “Inconsolable” showcase Gavin’s skill for addressing complex emotional experiences, from the thrill of new love to generational trauma’s impact on relationships. Drawing from influences like Alanis Morissette, Fiona Apple, and Ani DiFranco, Gavin taps into a deeply personal sound she’s dubbed “Lilith Fair-core.”
Reflecting on the album, Gavin says, “I don’t have much to say that isn’t in the songs. Thank you to everyone who supported me in making this record.” Gavin’s debut is a rich exploration of vulnerability, identity, and the human longing for connection, sure to resonate deeply with listeners.
