Today, Elle Chante releases her self-produced EP Umbra, a striking four-track record born from profound personal challenges. Showcasing her strength as both an artist and producer, the EP cements her as one to watch.

Drawing from her experience with cancer treatment, Umbra explores the emotional turmoil of a young woman facing a life-altering diagnosis. Elle shared: “When I was diagnosed, I felt a huge lack of representation for young people with cancer. It was isolating. I hope Umbra helps others feel less alone.”

The EP’s focus single, Gentle Matter, closes the record with a sense of solace. Written as a letter to herself, it offers encouragement in contrast to the battle-heavy language often used around cancer. “This track is a simple: ‘I’ll be there for you,’” Elle explained.

Ahead of the EP, she released Heal Me in February—an unflinching look at the failures of the healthcare system. “I want Heal Me to be a musical protest. Disabled people often feel unheard, and I wanted to reclaim my power with this track,” she said. “The NHS is struggling, and it’s failing people. So many of us are consistently let down. They hold my fate in their hands, yet they don’t listen.”

Also featured on the EP is Sweet Morphine, which reflects on the necessity of coping mechanisms. Elle likens the morphine given post-surgery to finding mental escape, saying, “When you're seriously ill, it’s all-consuming. Focusing on something beyond cancer helped me through.”

Closing out the EP is Reliable, a poignant reflection on the exhausting nature of resilience. “It’s tiring to keep up the image of coping. I push forward, but it’s exhausting,” she admitted.

With Umbra, Elle Chante transforms her personal pain into a deeply resonant body of work—one that will undoubtedly offer solace to others navigating similar struggles.
